Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Heartcode BLS/ACLS program a credentialed American Heart Association program?

Yes. The Heartcode BLS/ACLS Program consists of a two part series. The first segment involves the on-line portion that takes the student through the diadactic portion of the program that concludes with a short quiz. After that part is successfully completed, the enrollee is allowed to print off a completion certificate which is brought to a skills testing center. The skills testing center validates the practical or \"hands on\" portion of the class and provides the student with the appropriate American Heart Association CPR/ACLS Provider card.

Where are skills testing centers located?

The best way to find a BLS, ACLS, or PALS skills testing center is to visit the American Heart Association web-site. There you will find a link to the ECC Class Connector which will allow you to pick from a number of classes in your area.

How do I get CME Credits for classes I attended?

Most American Heart Association programs provide standardized credits for higher level classes. However, the recommendation is to consult with the organization which provided the training and see if CME\'s/Nursing/EMS credits have been applied for and approved.

Do I need to know how to read an EKG to be successful in taking ACLS?

Yes. ACLS and PALS programs are not intended to provide the student with fundamental EKG interpretation skills. These should be mastered prior to taking the course.

How long will the skills check take?

Plan on arriving about 15 minutes prior to the start time and the skills check taking about an hour long.

After I take the on-line portion, how long do I have to take the skills portion?

You should plan on taking the skills session within 60 days of completing the on-line portion of the course. If you cannot complete within this time frame, it is recommended that you contact the Training Center that will be issuing your card and make arrangements through that organization.

If I take the skills session, when will my CPR card be issued?

Woodson Education grants all levels of certification cards at the time the skills session is completed. There is no waiting for cards to be sent through traditional mail and no additional site that you need to visit in order to receive your card.

What if I have a certificate from an outside agency?

Certificates from organizations other then the American Heart Association will not be accepted. When completing part one of the process, your printed certificate should be watermarked with the American Heart Association logo. If you have taken an on-line program from a company that states it follows the American Heart Association guidelines, you may want to verify that the organization is using genuine American Heart Association materials.

Are there books required for on-line programs?

No. Books are not required for on-line programs. The most current guidelines are always used for any certification program that is offered through Woodson Education.

When will course certifications be sent?

After the successful completion of any on-line certification course, the class certificate will be sent to the e-mail provided within 5 business days.
